On the evening their will be performances from 7 of the UK’s top Unsigned Gospel Artists from Birmingham, Liverpool, London, Manchester and Nottingham. All 7 have made it through a rigorous selection process and are very capable of crossing over into the mainstream charts.

On the evening their will also be performances from some of the trailblazers in UK Gospel music, Noel Robinson, CIE, Ekklesia, Jahaziel and the group who won all the plaudits at the 2005 showcase Divine Unity from London. The evening will be hosted by Nicky Tapper from BBC Radio WM and Gospel music Ambassador Noel Robinson himself.

Cleveland vocalist/producer CONYA DOSS returns with a stunning new album ‘Love Rain Down”. Like her much loved last album “Just Because”, it again features co-production and writing collaborations with New York producer-artist Myron and Cleveland producer Rodney Jones.

I have resumed some interviews so look out for some new ones in the near future.

This runs in conjunction with the main site and both are seamlessly joined together. This part of the site was ‘down’ tomards the end of the last couple of months. This was because of the increased hit rate. This problem will not arise in the future as there is now higher bandwidth. As this has arisen due to the sites popularity I must thank everyone for their interest. On this part of the site alone the hit rates have been astonishing. For June and July the hit rate has been an average of 500 hits per day. On 19 June it was an amazing 1305! And on selected other days it approaches 1000.

So with a mailing list of over 1500, a myspace community of over 1000 relevant ‘friends (there is no friend chasing and all are selected by reference to the aims and objectives of the main site), a myspace forum of over 700 and this hit rate we are reaching tremendous numbers of people on a global basis. You may also be interested to know that th UK is only 10^th in the country list of hits!!!!!!!!!!

With many artists now using Myspace as their or complementary to their own websites this is becoming an extremely useful source of information. It is important to focus Myspace use to cut all the unwanted stuff (like fan sites and personals) and I endeavour to do this as best I can.

As information passes freely through Blogs and Bulletins and the like around the community I will tend not to post Myspace news and events on the indienews blogspot above, but I will not religiously hold to this rule.

INCOGNITO’S ALL-STAR ALBUM

Incognito return in October with a new album ‘Bees + Things + Flowers” featuring an all-star vocal line-up. Carleen Anderson, Jocelyn Brown, Maysa, Joy Rose, Imaani and Tony Momrelle all handle lead vocals on the 11-track album, which features a 16-piece string section.

The album, which is largely an acoustic set, includes new arrangements of Incognito favourites such as “Always There”, “Still A Friend of Mine” and “Deep Waters”. There are also covers of EWF’s “That’s The Way of the World”, Roy Ayers’ “Everybody Loves The Sunshine” and America’s “Tin Man”, as well as several brand new Bluey compositions.

The album will be released in the UK by Dome on October 2. Says Bluey:
“The album is an almost unplugged affair. It was recorded the old fashioned way with everyone playing live in the studio, and just a few overdubs afterwards. I’m really pleased with it, and to have so much vocal talent on one album is tremendous”.

Dennis Rollins’ new album charts the course of a big night out, and the opening track, Sweet Tone Bone, lets the listener know in no uncertain terms that they’re in for a good time. The anticipation felt on the second track, the adrenalin rush of Fire in the House, is continued with the dirty blues of Holier Than. The evening heats up on the dancefloor, with numbers such as (the-clue’s-in-the-title) Funk and Disorderly, Soul’d Out, On Da Floor and Head Rush, before moving seamlessly to the end-of-the-evening mellowness of Miracle You. The intoxicated walk home is perfectly portrayed on the dub-inflected penultimate track, Staggaback, and the big night out culminates in the Latin-tinged, guiltily-titled, Alibi.

Dennis’ unique and exciting approach to the trombone is captured in this repertoire of high energy, groove-based, funky dance music with jazz attitude and stylings. Ten of the 11 tracks on Big Night Out! are Dennis originals, the exception being his emotional rendition of The Isley Brothers’ Love The One You’re With. Alongside Dennis’ mighty trombone sound on Big Night Out! you can hear former Tomorrow's Warriors star Jay Phelps on trumpet and flugelhorn, Johnny Heyes on guitar, Zoltan Dekany on acoustic bass, Alex Morgan on keys and drummers Dewi Young, Sam Agard, Vidal Juba and Pete Matthews. The spoken word vocals on Sweet Tone Bone come courtesy of 2005 Urban Music Award winner, shortMAN. Big Night Out! is classic Dennis Rollins... with extra funk.

Dennis Rollins is an acclaimed musician, composer and educator, well-known on the UK and international jazz scene. Born in 1964 in the Midlands to Jamaican parents, and raised in South Yorkshire, Dennis cut his teeth at the age of 14 studying and performing with The Doncaster Youth Jazz Association. After years of study, Dennis moved to London and began playing with the National Youth Jazz Orchestra (NYJO) and the legendary all-black jazz big band The Jazz Warriors. Over the years, Dennis, now based in Doncaster, has established a reputation as an artist of excellence and has lent his unique and stylish talents to some of this country's, and indeed the world's, top jazz and pop personalities such as Courtney Pine, Baba Maal, Jamiroquai, US3, Brand New Heavies and Blur.

At a star-studded awards ceremony on Thursday 13 July 2006 at the Mermaid Theatre, London, Dennis Rollins’ Badbone & Co won the BBC Radio 3 Jazz Line Up Award for Best Band 2006. Earlier in the week, on Tuesday 11 July, Dennis picked up a Marston’s Pedigree British Jazz Award for best trombonist. Both these award nominations were chosen by a panel of experts and voted for by the public, which highlights the respect and admiration felt for Dennis by audiences and industry professionals alike.

Dennis is an Ambassador for the National Foundation for Youth Music’s Endangered Species programme, set up to boost youth interest in instruments such as the trombone, French horn, double bass, tuba and oboe, and is also on the Board of Advisors of the British Trombone Society.
