Heather Park News

Hi ,

I know it's been a long time since the last newletter, but it's been a busy summer! We've gotten a lot of recording done on the new project, and we're still continuing to put it together. Hopefully will have some new materials for y'all to hear real soon.

But, I just wanted to send a SAVE THE DATE!

Thursday, September 27th 8pm! @ The Village Underground, NYC

After an incredible show at the Emergenza Finals @ Webster Hall, one of the judges loved our performance so much, he booked us for a special gig at the Village Underground! It's really important that we get a lot of folks out there. (Basically, if we get tons of folks, we get to play at another, really exclusive showcase!) So I'm letting y'all know early! No excuses this time...

More deets to come. Hope you have a beautiful rest of summer! See you in Sept!

peace & light,

HP

The Rendezvous Salutes ONUTTS 1st Anniversary - September 24th

Ths is an event you DO NOT want to miss. The next edition of The Rendezvous on Monday September 24th will be a special salute to the first anniversary of One Nation Under The Soul Shack (ONUTTS).

The featured performers for the evening will be:

Keni Myles

Peachy Salthouse

Myoshi Marilla

...and Mike Hammond

...
Who knows who else will show up and decide to perform.

The ladies of ONUTTS have supported so many over the last year including InJoy Enterprises and we want to give some of that love back with this special night. So make sure you block off your calendar for Monday, September 24th when The Rendezvous will be a salute to the 1st Anniversary of ONUTTS.

The Rendezvous takes place on the last Monday of every Month at Shrine World Music Venue, 2271 Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Blvd bet. 133rd & 134th Street in Harlem, USA. Doors Open at 6PM, with performances beginning at 7:30. Admission is $10.00.

ONUTTS Anniversary Listening Party - September 10th

ONUTSS extends a "special invitation" to one & all to come down to the elegant, yet intimately warm and inviting Tov's on Worth Street for this fantastic listening party to hear music from two great artists!

Atlanta's Melissa Young (myspace) is quickly becoming a name that is on the tip of everyone's tongues. Her song, "Just A Girl" was recently added as a downloadable feature on Soultracks.com. If you haven't gotten it, don't wait! Melissa has her own sound, her own style -- you won't listen to her singing and say, "wow, she sure does sound like ... when I close my eyes!"

South Carolina transplant and now calling himself a New Yorker, Jerome (myspace) has traveled the world and impressively holds a formal degree in Musical Theater with a Piano Minor. Jerome has appeared at the World Famous Apollo and was music director for Sunday Gospel & Jazz Brunch on 42nd Street at the legendary Soul Cafe, from the TV Show New York Undercover. He is also the Assistant Musical Director for Tony Award Winner George Faison's Respect Project. Jerome writes for up and coming artists in various music genres like Urban Gospel, Soul, R&B, and Pop. Musical Theater writing is also a passion

InJoy Enterprises encourages all of our friends to support ONUTTS as they continue to do great things to promote the independent music scene.

ART FOR PROGRESS ART IN DESIGN---

Art For Progress presents The Art of Design

This September, Art For Progress(AFP) will present its third annual
fashion event featuring two emerging fashion designers during New York
Fashion Week. This year's show will feature AFP members Lu Kun and Selma
Karaca. In conjunction with Art For Progress, Lu Kun is the first couture
designer from Shanghai to participate in fashion week. Karaca was the
2006 winner of AFP's international fashion competition. The event will
showcase two of the most talented international designers.

Lu Kun is quickly becoming the newest fashion sensation in Asia,
especially since his recent participation in the Singapore Fashion
Festival in March. As winner of the “Best Young Designer in China” award
by the Shanghai Fashion Federation in 2004, he has become a growing
presence in the international fashion scene. This coming September 3rd,
Lu Kun will be featured in the second annual Munich International Fashion
Day, a charity event sponsored by Audi. He will be the first non-European
designer to participate in this prestigious festival. His work has been
featured in both Vogue China and Elle China magazines, among many others.

Selma Karaca, a native of Turkey and resident of New York City, was
educated in Fine Art. She began her fashion career as a milliner, selling
her artistic hats to high-end stores in Istanbul and Europe. Now her focus
is on couture clothing with luxurious hand-detailing. As a finalist in the
2004 Gen Art Styles avant-garde competition, she has become known not only
as a great designer, but as a true artist in a category all her own. She
was recently featured in the Queens Museum.

The Art of Design event will be held on September 6th, 2007 at the AVEnts
loft in Chelsea, and will be on the official Fashion Calendar.
The show is scheduled for 6pm with an after-party to follow. AVEnts is
located at 15 West 28th Street, 10th Flr.

RSVP to events@artforprogress.org or visit www.artforprogress.org for more
details.

Have a safe holiday weekend - don't say goodbye to Summer yet as we still technically have a month:-)

Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings to Release New Album, 100 Days, 100 Nights

Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings to Release New Album, 100 Days, 100 Nights

RELEASE DATE: 1/10/07

Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings will release their latest full length, 100 Days, 100 Nights, on October 2nd on Daptone Records. 100 Days, 100 Nights is the group’s third full-length since they burst on the scene with their 2002 release, Dap Dippin’ With Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings, on Bushwick, Brooklyn based label, Daptone Records. Since that time, the band has released 2005’s Naturally, and The Dap-Kings became sought after by artists ranging from Amy Winehouse (performing as the backing band on Winehouse’s Back to Black album and tour), Kanye West, Mark Ronson, Public Enemy’s Hank Shocklee, Lilly Allen, and more. In addition, Sharon contributed vocals to projects with Lou Reed, Rufus Wainwright, and They Might Be Giants. 100 Days, 100 Nights was recorded in the same Bushwick, Brooklyn Daptone studio as its predecessors, using all analog equipment to achieve the signature hard-hitting funk and soul sound that has made the band so in demand among musicians and fans alike.

To celebrate the release of 100 Days, 100 Nights, Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings will headline the world famous Apollo Theatre in Harlem, New York City on Saturday, October 6th, before kicking off a nationwide USA tour that will run through the months of November and December.

Download and share Sharen Jones and the Dap-Kings “100 Days, 100 Nights” from 100 Days, 100 Nights (Daptone Records)

Purple St. James is an artist who invokes memories of the soul greats of the past. Hip Hop had a baby with Tina, Parliament and Minnie. Her name is Purple St. James. Funky, beautiful and passionate, her sound pushes the envelope at times, while being subtly sexy and familiar at other times.

People who witness a Purple St. James performance usually walk away with an adrenaline rush and a tingling feeling running up and down their spines. In her former life, you may have known her as a shooting black star named YahZarah. The former student from the renowned Duke Ellington School of Music has performed with such musical legendary geniuses as Stevie Wonder, Anita Baker and Dave Brubek. She has made an incredible transformation in a short amount of time. In a span of seven years, Purple St. James went from a music scholarship student at North Carolina Central University to a background singer for one of the founders of the neo- soul movement, Erykah Badu. Now, she is a soul artist in her own right.

Under the name YahZarah, Purple St. James released two musical ventures to date: "Hear Me" (released on the Keo Music label) and "Black Star" (released on the Three Keys label). She has graced the stage with artists like Floetry, Musiq Soul Child, Kem, Donnie, Amel Larrieux, Goapele, Talib Kweli, Rahsaan Paterson, Raheem Davoughn, Chaka Kahn, Bilal Oliver, The Roots, and the list goes on and on.

Purple St. James has created a unique mold that cannot be replicated. She is one of a kind. She is the confluence of that which is both classic and cutting edge. Hearing Purple St. James elevate from a soul diva to a funk shaman causes your ears and soul to be inundated with a sound that's part Shirley Caesar and part Sly Stone, with a touch of the Brides of Funkenstein. Prepare to be pulled in, and to become hooked on Ms. Purple St. James.

Come out and catch YAHZARAH a.k.a. PURPLE ST. JAMES perform live with special guest: BIG BROOKLYN RED for the ACOUSTIC SOUL LOUNGE series at GROOVEOLOGY @ SIP Lounge! This Sunday, August 19th, at 7:30pm! The show will be recorded for broadcast on Soul- Patrol.Net! Come be a part of the live audience!

Wahoo

Dixon's back in full disco form after his minimal outing on the Body Language compilation. This time with George levin, as Wahoo. Check out the Basement Jaxx remix.
Evil stuff.

Im Your Lover is the first single to be taken from the forthcoming long player Take It Personal by German duo Wahoo. The single features Felix from Basement Jaxx who lends his vocal chords to the bouncy, synth infused summer time track. Taking a little of the ska rhythm the track jumps leisurely through the verses before diving headlong into the hella catchy chorus.

Wahoo is the brainchild of Berlin-based singer/songwriter/producer Georg Levin and Steffen Dixon Berkhahn. After initially pairing up to tailor remixes for artists like Jazzanova and Victor Davies, the duo decided that their talents could be put to better use than the occasional re-edit. Their first single together as Wahoo, Make Em Shake It exploded onto the scene in 2004 and was snapped up by one of the worlds biggest house music labels, Defected Records.

Dixon is an award winning DJ and promoter of one of Berlins coolest club nights Innercity Visions, which is also the same name as his record label (voted label of the year by DJ Magazine). He has been a weekly resident at some of Berlins most important nightclubs - E-Werk and The Tresor since the mid Nineties and has recently compiled the latest instalment in the Get Physical compilation series. There is no way of avoiding Dixon when youre talking about contemporary electronic music in Germany today.

Georg has been writing songs and experimenting with primitive recording equipment since his childhood days. Hes played in various bands over the years, manning the keyboards and picking up a saxophone every now and again. He was thinking of starting a career in the media when he met Alexander Barck from Jazzanova, co-founder of Sonar Kollektiv, which led him to become serious about fulfilling his lifelong dream of releasing his own music.

Look out for the Wahoo full length Take It Personal out 27th August on Four Music

Tracklisting:

1. Im Your Lover ft. Felix from Basement Jaxx

2. Dont Take It Personal (Georg Levins Edit)

2007 International Soul Music Summit
Atlanta, GA

Last week, Atlanta was the place to be as the International Soul Music Summit touched down. Three full days of panel discussions, performances, networking, and showcases highlight this stellar event that brought out the best in the independent music community. Some of the talent in attendance included Eric Roberson, Conya Doss, Ann Nesby, Carol Riddick, Yahzarah, Joi, Peter Hadar, and Alison Crockett.

Most memorable moments included the Artist panels, Soul @ Midnight Showcase with eclectic performances from Jennifer Johns and Rahbi, a midnight rooftop soiree with killer selections by J Rawls, and ,of course, the free Heineken.

"The 2nd International Soul Summit really stepped up to the plate in terms of size, panels, industry and artist turn-out. There were lots of activities, parties and overall friendship bonding and building. This Summit is truly empowering and very much needed to uplift the Soul Community and bring us all together so that we can continue to thrive and have the rest of the industry WAKE UP and PAY ATTENTION!!! Kudos to Terry Bello."

Nu-Soul bridges the gap between the world of R&B/soul and the underground vibes of electronica, the common factor being a grounding in funk, soul and urban lifestyle. This is a place where the sounds of neo-soul, drum and bass, deep house and breakbeat are a part of the same family. Through fascinating articles, engaging interviews, and the latest reviews, Nu-Soul hopes to open minds to the incredible array of soul influenced music available today.
