Greetings and welcome to the new Soulful Sound Music newsletter!
In this, our 8th edition the newsletter, I'd like to share a couple of "good news" items, as well as info on some important upcoming dates - one in White Plains at the Westchester Arts Council's Arts Exchange (Feb. 9) and another in NYC at The Rockwood Music Hall (Feb. 16). You'll find all the details below.
In other news, I want to bring your attention to an outstanding, up and coming young pianist/composer by the name of Victor Simonson. Victor's new debut release, "Victory" (Thelamaque Music) is a "Neo-eclectic" collection of his compositions which reflect various musical styles. The first release event will take place friday night, 2/1, at Memorial Presbyterian Church in Roosevelt (L.I.), NY. Victor is the former musical director for the Harlem Boys Choir and the 3 Mo' Tenors touring group, and presently associate conductor for the national touring company of "The Color Purple." In addition to all of this - he's my nephew ;-) I hope you'll take a moment to check out his music at www.victorsimonson.com. You'll be glad you did!
So, you might have noticed our new design. As it is the beginning of a brand new year, I thought what better time than this to try out a newer, sleeker look? You'll have to let me know what you think. I give thanks, as always, for your presence in my life. I appreciate each and every one of you and the continual love, support and encouragement you've given over the years. None of this would be possible without you, so thanks for being Always There!

| | Journalist, Elzy Kolb has written a feature article about me and my upcoming performance at the Arts Exchange in White Plains, NY on Saturday, February 9, 2008 at 7PM.
In the interview I talk about how I came up with the theme for the show - "The Venus Factor: Honoring the Leading Ladies of Voice & Piano" as well as some of the artists I plan to focus on, such as Roberta Flack, Nina Simone, Brenda Russell and Carole King among others.
The story will appear in the Feb. 8 (Friday) issue of the Journal News, in the Entertainment supplement of the paper. You'll also be able to view it online at http://www.lohud.com.
| Well it's official - we've finally joined the YouTube generation and gotten some video of our live show uploaded to the internet thanks to the generosity of bassist, Chris Weigers. This is from our last Cornelia St. Cafe performance on 11/2807. Miriam was out of town that night, and bassist, Carlo DeRosa graciously subbed and did a wonderful job.
The tune is "Please Say You Do" which is one of the bonus tracks on the Columbia release of Always There (Japan). We've uploaded to the MySpace page, so you can click on the photo here and check it out. And for those of you who are really curious (and/or bored) ... there's more. Just go to YouTube.com and do a search on my name, and you'll find several other videos from that same evening. And if you're feeling so inclined and post a comment, I'll totally be your BFF!
