Friends and Fam Someone said to me yesterday- "Fiona- you do something- throw an event every day of your life". Um- I had to think about that for a second because lately- I haven't stopped and I wonder to myself where the heck is all my energy coming from. Well - I can answer that-- through my passion for the music and culture. Without passion driving everything I do--- there would be no reason to continue... We Aries continue the party....Although I think I'm done with all the celebrating. I had to leave my afterparty early the other night as all my friends got me way too drunk:-) Frank's Lounge- Nu-Soul Series was ridiculous. Place was packed full of artists, bloggers, photographers, soul supporters and out of towners. All there to witness greatness and the buzz on HESTON and Tricia Angus... Photo credit: Stevie's Soul Please check the flicks on Soul Commune Soul Commune Also- The Bloom Blog The Bloom Blog Read up on the party and the days in the life of ATL's HESTON HESTON Atlanta Soul sensation- Heston has been wooing audiences in NY so far with a sneak peak taste at Frank's Lounge in Brooklyn and then at SIP Lounge in Harlem to ONUTSS at Shrine this evening and then to Tillman's Lounge- The Marksmen Monday night. Heston in in NYC promoting his debut album - a collection of 15 heartfelt songs called 'Storyteller'. He is available for interviews, photo opps, parties and whatever else you're interested in. I'm off to Atlanta for The Bob Marley Tribute at Sugar Hill May 10th. Heston is producing and performing along with Julie Dexter. The first major Bob Marley Tribute of this nature with Soul Artists--- Heston

APRIL HILL

Also hailing from Atlanta- April Hill - young up and coming immensely talented vocalist/songwriter with jazzy sensibilities, sophisticated soul and a spoken word and hip hop feel-- April has it all. Wide broad appeal. She ripped it opening for Roy Ayers at SOB's last week. She's got a few shows coming up in Atlanta including Harmony in Life, Centennial Park and 500 Songs for Kids.

KATE SCHUTT

Hailing from PA and living in Toronto- this exceptionally talented singer/songwriter jazz vocalist/guitarist Kate Schutt has lots to say. Her latest release ' No Love Lost' says it all. Very prolific writer and great performer. She's part of the Artistshare Collective. Artistshare Kate is performing with her Jazz Trio at World Cafe Live Sunday, May 11th..

SAM THE KID

So got to keep the momentum going for Portuguese MC SAM THE KID. His trip to NY and U.S.A was incredibly successful. You'll be hearing lots more from this kid. He's a sick producer, acrobatic skilled lyricist and his flow is rich.. Hoping that he's back for June/July- performing at some outdoor events/festivals. Sam is collaborating with well known Brazilian MC Marcelo D2 and is also involved with a very cool project called DIVERSIDAD EXPERIENCE Diversidad Experience Several MC's from around Europe came together in France to record and shoot a video to a very hot single. You'll be hearing it soon. It will debut across the world on April 30th. There is a big festival to celebrate end of June in Vienna. I'm definitely trying to attend...

THE UPSTAIRS

There's a new weekly kicking off that will give all these hip, cool hotel lounges a run for their money. The Upstairs at Renaissance Times Square. Partnered up with a fabulous white spirit "Signature cocktails by Sagatiba Cachaça". Every Wednesday starting April 30th. 6:00-10:00PM The hotel has undergone significant design changes and the look and feel is a completely new experience. Come out next week - have some h'ors douvres by Chop Suey and some fab cocktails. On the turntables- some of my favorite DJ's. MONI and DHUNDEE

On a final note- I'm very happy to say that after championing the Soul and Global Hip Hop movements and being a strong advocate and helping grow the genres and contributing to artists having a platform and voice-- It's very exciting to witness the expansion and evolution of these styles. I will be involved in even bigger projects that continue to put these styles on the map in The U.S and will be able to announce fairly soon some very exciting deals to further enhance these artists moving forward. If you hear of anything unusual, creative, innovative from other parts of the world that I may not be hip to- please inform me and send them my way.
