“It’s a terrific formula-pairing an incredibly talented, seasoned performer with a red-hot up-and-comer. Or more specifically, an award-winning, post bebop pianist and his sidemen with a playfully expressive, yet stirring, vocalist. Who inspires whom? Does the brilliant musician play off the youthful energy, or does the fresh phenom play off the experienced virtuosity? No matter. Just listen and enjoy!” -

Organix Soul: We're Bringing Soul Back
The Organix Soul January Line Up Is Bubbling with Talent. We are proud to state that for January, all the stops had to be pulled, thinking caps tightened as the promotions team attempted to figure out how to create a line up as potent and powerful as Decembers line up. Leon Timbo and Marcell and the Truth tore the house down. The opening acts set the tone with powerfully soulful deliveries led by Gospel Artist Yvette Early and Poet Baub Bidon.
The beauty of the Panorama Restaurant Lounge is that unless you're aware of it, you would never know it's there. Removed from the more popular Springfield venues, it's hidden away between Chestnut and Dwight Streets, located on the 12th Floor of the Beautiful Holiday Inn downtown Springfield.
Hundreds of concert goers have discovered that on the fourth Saturday of every month there is this working concept called Organix Soul, a hip mix of live neo-soul, funk, jazz, spoken word, and gospel presented by Organix Entertainment Promotions. This monthly event ushers in a return to the roots of soulful music in New England. Despite being off the beaten path for clubbers, it continues to be packed; once again defying the notion that Springfield Massachusetts is a no-fun city.
Organix Soul is living evolving proof that even though organic soul music often gets buried in the mainstream mix these days, Soul Music in its various manifestations is forever, Enter Brown Rice…
Springfield Massachusetts based singer/songwriter Shameka Brice aka Brown Rice is another in a growing list of impressive, talented performers who are successfully merging old and new school grooves with a Soulful flavor and is quickly turning Springfield into perhaps the most exciting New England city for new soul music.
Brown Rice began her career at the age of 16, singing background and studio session vocals for a wide range of producers and artists. Over the years she has consistently introduced her audiences to her enticingly electrifying sound of pure soul, adding a delicious flavor to hip-hop and R&B. she released her first compilation Album in Japan Entitled " Bounce To This ", 3 singles from the album (Man of Steel, Try Love, & Reasons) were hits throughout Europe and Japan.
On January 26, 2008 Brown-Rice will be performing hits live at Organix Soul, along with Boston vocalist Maeve Hughes, Connecticut R&B singer Hector Troy, Huggy Bear the poet from Mobile Alabama, and the Nu Direxions Band out of Hartford, CT.
Organix Soul is a two-hour show that promotes good ole fashioned soulful music and spoken word. Promoter D. Moss says “Our goal is to promote events that we feel are socially and artistically relevant and inspiring. This is an opportunity for local artists to network with national artists of stature and for fans of real music to come out and enjoy themselves.”
Tickets for this event are $20 at the door, $15 in advance and can be purchased online at OrganixSoul.com. For more information or for local ticket outlets contact Organix Promotions at 413.233.4595. Visit our sponsor SPRINGFIELD HOLIDAY INN AT www.hispringfield.com

As the very first "Black Music Digital Compilation Album", it was the first album of it's kind and although you will no doubt see many imitations in the future, you own a copy of the very first one!!! However you can still obtain any of the 55 individual songs from the artists who own them in whatever form they decide to repackage the songs in. The links to the artist websites will remain posted at: http://www.soul-patrol.com/album And you can contact them and pay them directly if you wish to obtain their music. But you won't be able to get the Soul-Patrol Digital/Virtual Album 1.0 from Soul-Patrol.com or any other legal source after 1/23/2008. Please don't ask me about it after that date. Some of the artists have some pretty big plans for their music and no doubt you will be hearing more about those plans, over time as they make those plans public. I know that some of the songs will be the lead songs on upcoming releases from the artists. Some have been assigned to TV shows & movies soundtracks. Some will be marketed as stand alone singes by the artists themselves, etc. Which was the entire point of the exercise in providing the exposure for these 55 GREAT SONGS in the manner in which we did. We wanted to utilize the technology to help enable them to further their goals as independent artists, and I think that we accomplished that. Needless to say, we are quite proud to have been involved in this first of a kind effort, from a musical, technological and cultural perspective. It was quite a job to put together the marketing, technological and fulfillment infrastructure and as such I would like to thank the following people along with all of the artists who worked as a team to pull this off: Jose Munoz - Album Producer Earl Gregory - Quality Control & Customer Service Soul-Patrol Coordinators in Philly, Memphis, LA & Cleveland Mike Davis - Developed the Distribution and Customer Fulfillment technology infrastructure LISTEN TO: (features song clips from 11 of the 50 songs & basic album info) Various Artists - Chuck D, Mandrill, Angel, Darrell Mcneil, JD Blair, Joseph Wooten, Stephanie Mckay, the Mighty Dells, Nadir, Maty Soul, Lenny Blocko, Gary Lee & the Catdaddy's) Get this historic package today and download it for posterity. Hi Records producer Mitchell to get Grammy Trustees Award
Presentation scheduled for February in L.A.
By Michael Donahue
Wednesday, December 19, 2007
Hi Records impresario Willie Mitchell will receive a Trustees Award -- the nonperforming equivalent of a Lifetime Achievement Award -- as part of the 50th Grammy Awards in Los Angeles in February.
The announcement was made Tuesday by The Recording Academy.
Mitchell, one of the key architects of "the Memphis sound," sired some of the most famous instrumental hits of the '60s, and shepherded the careers of Al Green and Ann Peebles in the '70s. And, aside from his important contributions as producer, arranger and songwriter, Mitchell was one of the city's hottest trumpeters and bandleaders.
At 79, Mitchell is still an active player in the contemporary music scene at his Royal Studio in South Memphis.
Also receiving the Grammy Trustees Award will be recording industry executive Clarence Avant and Elektra Records and Nonesuch Records founder Jac Holzman.
"It's always nice to get an award for your work," said Mitchell, who described the honor as "a wonderful Christmas present." He said he plans to attend the ceremony. "I will definitely be there."
Neil Portnow, president/CEO of The Recording Academy, called with the news a couple of weeks ago. "He said he didn't want to write me," Mitchell said. "He said he's been following my work for a long time."
Jon Hornyak, president of the local chapter of the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences, said the Trustees Award "definitely secures (Mitchell's) position as a legendary American music maker."
Hornyak has been a Mitchell fan since he first saw him perform in 1967 at the Hornersville (Mo.) Watermelon Festival. "I think, to me, the Al Green records are like Bach and Beethoven. They'll be played as long as people are playing music."
Mitchell signed with Hi Records in 1959, and took the helm of the operation in 1970. He co-produced and engineered all of Green's albums from 1970 through 1976, including such seminal soul classics as Tired Of Being Alone, Here I Am (Come And Take Me), and Let's Stay Together.
The Mitchell-Green collaboration led Hi to unprecedented success.
Mitchell will be given his award at a special ceremony Feb. 9. The Grammy Awards will be broadcast live from the Staples Center in Los Angeles at 7 p.m. Feb. 10 on CBS.
Recipients of this year's Lifetime Achievement Awards include composer Burt Bacharach; The Band (Rick Danko, Levon Helm, Garth Hudson, Richard Manuel and Robbie Robertson); jazz and scat singer Cab Calloway; singer and actress Doris Day; violin virtuoso Itzhak Perlman; drummer and jazz composer Max Roach; and bluegrass banjo player Earl Scruggs.
Memphis has had a high profile at Grammy Lifetime Achievement Awards ceremonies in recent years. The 2006 winners included Booker T. & the MGs, with a Trustees Award going posthumously to Stax Records co-founder Estelle Axton.
Jerry Lee Lewis received the award in 2005, along with Stax recording stars the Staple Singers. Other Memphis-affiliated musicians who have received the honor include B.B. King in 1987, Aretha Franklin in 1994, Bobby 'Blue' Bland in 1997, Otis Redding in 1999, Al Green in 2002, and members of Motown house band the Funk Brothers in 2004.
